Jane Govoni received her MA in Spanish from Boston College and her PhD in Second Language Acquisition from the University of South Florida. Her background includes teaching Spanish at all levels, including elementary, middle, high school, and college. In addition, she teaches ESOL for Teacher Preparation Programs off ering the ESOL endorsement. She held a tenured faculty position at Saint Leo University. Dr. Govoni is active on state and national educational boards, including the TESOL Professional Standards Committee, the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE), Executive Board for the Southeastern Regional Association of Teacher Educators (SRATE), and Sarasota Literacy Council (SLC). She has written several books related to teaching English learners in the Pre-K-12 mainstream classroom. She currently serves as the ESOL program coordinator in the College of Education at the University of South Florida. In addition to serving as co-editor of this textbook, Dr. Govoni created the teacher vignettes to off er practical and realistic classroom scenarios to support pre-service teacher candidates.
Cindy Lovell received her BA in Elementary Education and MA in Education from Stetson University. She earned her PhD in Education at The University of Iowa, specializing in ESOL and gift ed education. She has held tenured faculty positions at Volusia County Schools, Stetson University, and Quincy University. Dr. Lovell served as executive director at the Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum in Missouri and the Mark Twain House & Museum in Connecticut. She has authored numerous publications, presented at various conferences, and is a consultant for the Florida DOE writing test items for the FTCE. Since 2017, Dr. Lovell has served as director of education at Epic Flight Academy where she works with hundreds of international students. She is also an adjunct professor at University of South Florida and Quincy University. In 2021, she received the USF College of Education Excellence in Undergraduate Education Award. In addition to serving as co-editor of this textbook, Dr. Lovell authored Chapter 8: Taking Off the Wrapper: Identifying and Serving Gifted English Learners.
