Christopher (Chris) J. Ryan is the Director of Professional & Technical Communication at the Harry W. Bass, Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, & Technology at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). In addition to teaching Professional and Technical Communication, Ryan has taught undergraduate courses in Rhetorical Framing Analysis in News Stories and Visual Rhetoric, as well as graduate courses in Visual Rhetoric and Teaching Firstyear Writing. Ryan received the UTD Arts & Humanities Victor Worsfeld Outstanding Teaching Award in 2019.
Prior to joining the UTD faculty in 2009, Ryan served in various leadership roles during a 25-year career at EDS/HP. Among his many roles, Ryan served as Manager of Editing & Writing in Corporate Communications, Director of Campus Recruiting, Director of Asia/Pacific Human Resources, Director of Staffing, and Development Consultant for Executives during his tenure with the company.
Ryan holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from St. Edward’s University, where he graduated summa cum laude; a Master of Arts in Advertising from The University of Texas at Austin; and a Doctor of Philosophy in Technical Communication and Rhetoric from Texas Tech University.
