This textbook focuses on accounting skills for entrepreneurs. To achieve this focus, this book combines two common themes that pertain to all of those going into business or are already working in the business realm. First, whether you are an actual business owner, or working in finance, management, marketing, human resources, accounting, or other business area, we all have hopes, goals, or interests that involve entrepreneurship. Whether it is outright owning your own business or owning a business with others or just assisting owners in the business achieve the goals that business is set out to accomplish, entrepreneurship is something we all can understand and support. And do keep up this entrepreneurial spirit!
The second theme common to all of those in business is we must understand the language of business, which is accounting. Note that many accounting books focus on the accounting concepts that an accountant needs to know to fully succeed in the accounting profession. And all other business areas are meant to learn these too. But this textbook takes the reverse approach. The main focus of this book is the business areas outside of accounting. Note that those in accounting can still benefit from this book as it focuses on arguably the most important skills in accounting. Throughout the book, you will see reference to business owners, managers, and other decision makers. This group is meant to focus on all business decision makers, including accountants, but with a special focus on entrepreneurs looking for the key areas. These key areas include financial accounting, managerial accounting, and tax concepts.
