Administration and Governance in a Global Sport Economy provides a comprehensive examination of the principles, structures, and practices that guide the management and governance of sport organizations. The book introduces readers to the foundations of sport organizations before exploring key management functions, including strategic planning, organizational theory, communication, leadership, human resource management, budgeting, and risk management. Together, these topics provide a framework for understanding how sport organizations operate effectively in an increasingly complex and interconnected global environment.
Building on these management principles, the text examines governance across a wide range of sport settings, including youth and recreational sport, interscholastic and intercollegiate athletics, professional sport in the United States and internationally, individual professional sports, and the Olympic and Paralympic movements. The book also explores the role of international sport federations and the development of sport policy, helping readers understand the governance systems, challenges, and decision-making processes that shape sport at the local, national, and global levels.
