I chose to compile this reader for the Examining Self as a Teacher course because there was a need for an affordable text for students, readings that were directed toward them and providing information that they will need in the classroom—readings that are current and not slanted in a political agenda. JAMES HOLLENBECK

Dr. James E. Hollenbeck earned his Ph. D. at the University of Iowa in Science Education and Biological Sciences. At Indiana University Southeast, he is the Science Education Coordinator, Professor of Science Education, and Science, Technology and Society. Dr. Hollenbeck has taught number of environmental science, sustainability and education courses over his 15-year career. He recently completed a Fulbright Research Chair in 2015 in Canada, as an active senior lecturer and researcher. In 2008, he was a Fulbright Senior Scholar/Researcher with the Faculty of Chemical Education. is Bulgarian Fulbright was capped by being awarded the 120 Anniversary Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” Medal of Merit, Recognition for Outstanding Achievement in Research in Science Education. Dr. Hollenbeck taught high school science and coached football, basketball and track in Iowa and Nebraska for 13 years.
