The types of cases you are going to read in this book are what we call decision-based cases, or cases that require the reader to come to some kind of decision. Every case is essentially laid out in a very similar pattern. First, you will be introduced to the main character of the case. Second, you will be introduced to other individuals involved within the case. Third, you will be introduced to the main communication problem, or a number of communication problems that either the main character or her or his organization currently face. Lastly, you will be left with a character not sure which direction he or she should proceed. In essence, you, as the reader, will need to come up with the decision the main character should make.
