Ramesh
Naresh Ramesh, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Biology at the West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech) within the School of Arts and Sciences. A distinguished educator and researcher, Dr. Ramesh has dedicated his career to advancing the understanding of comparative endocrinology and metabolic physiology.
A strong advocate for equality of opportunity and access in higher education, Dr. Ramesh focuses on creating an inclusive learning environment. His teaching is informed by his extensive training in biological and biomedical sciences, allowing him to mentor students across a wide range of undergraduate coursework.
Dr. Ramesh is widely recognized for his pioneering research in identifying and characterizing Nesfatin-1-Like Peptide (NLP), a protein involved in regulating insulin secretion and energy balance. His recent work at WVU Tech includes collaborating on international research to develop fetal resilience to viruses like PRRSV, which has significant implications for global livestock and food security. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed studies in journals including Nature Scientific Reports, General and Comparative Endocrinology and Proceedings of the West Virginia Academy of Science. At WVU Tech, he is known for actively involving students in his teaching and professional research, providing them with high-level exposure to topics in cellular and hormone physiology.
Prior to joining the faculty at WVU Tech, Dr. Ramesh served as an Assistant Professor at St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. He was cross appointed as a Senior Lecturer at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (University of Saskatchewan), The Department of Indigenous Science and Knowledge at First Nations University of Canada (FNUC) and at St. Peter’s College. He has additionally served as an Academic Consultant for BeMo Academic Consulting, a prominent North American EdTech firm.
Dr. Ramesh’s commitment to education has earned him the Teacher Scholar Doctoral Fellowship from the Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching and Learning. He is also the recipient of the Impactful Animal Research Award from Zoetis Inc and the Presidential Award from The Endocrine Society, USA. Beyond the classroom, he serves as the Treasurer for the West Virginia Academy of Science and is a frequent contributor to international research teams addressing global health and food security challenges.
