The Anatomy & Physiology Laboratory Manual has been developed by Anatomy & Physiology Professors who have combined total of over 100 years of experience teaching A&P. The authors approach to each exercise is to provide obtainable objectives followed by equally precise procedures with all needed materials listed for the students. Procedures to be followed in the laboratory setting provide clear instructions with spaces provided for student observations and conclusions. Some exercises will have self-test-like materials whereby the students can assess their understanding of key concepts. To further support student success, Critical Thinking and Application of concepts is provided following the completion of some laboratory experiences.
Illustrations in this laboratory manual include color pictures of microscopic materials which look very similar to what the student will observe through microscopic studies, commonly used A&P models, or pictures of dissected anatomical structures.
To assess student learning and lead to the success of A&P students, the author suggest two or three laboratory practical examinations, foregoing the submission of each written observation which the student needs for reference and review. This Practice has proven successful for these particular professors.
Finally, with the customization of this laboratory manual geared to courses focusing on the Health Services fields including nursing, respiratory therapy, surgical technology or dental hygiene, the authors believe that the most pertinent and practical information for an A&P course have been covered. Completing A&P using this laboratory manual. Coupled with strong teaching methods, will serve to prepare the student for the next level of learning as the students reach for the goal that thy have set for themselves.
