Jennifer Colby

Dr. Jennifer Colby received her PhD in Humanities from the California Institute of Integral Studies, San Francisco, a Masters in Studio Art from Fresno State University, and a Masters of Theology, Religion and the Arts from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA. Dr. Colby has provided Arts Integration professional development for teachers with Partners for the Advancement of Teaching, Lesley University masters’ program, and while serving as an artist-in residence in K–12 schools. She has prepared undergraduates for the teaching profession for over twenty years as faculty in the Liberal Studies Department, California State University, Monterey Bay. Dr. Colby is a visual artist, community activist, curator, and scholar, named 2007 Champion of the Arts – Educator for Monterey County.

My experience with Visual Art, Music, Dance, and Drama in the School and Community was enjoyable! I learned about many approaches and components of art and how they affect our community. The diversity of materials we can manufacture and explain them with our lesson activity have taught me a lot. I had no idea how much fun watercolor could be or how tough it was to keep the print in one place without the color liquid leaking into another. My observations of students have been that they each gave and discussed their style of dance and theater and how they may link in the same order.
