Today and in the aftermath of the 2020 COVID-19 global pandemic, the use of technology is ever present and necessary to work in the United States; moreover, using technology to complete these basic forms is also a must.

According to a Cengage Study, nearly half of recent graduates in 2021 did not feel that they had work-ready skill sets and 19% felt wholly unprepared by their college education. Perhaps most surprisingly, writing and technological use, two essentials, are areas that face lags in student competency from high school, through college, and post-graduation.

Basic Forms of Professional and Technical Writing addresses these deficits to help both instructors and readers bolster professional writing skills. The basic forms in this book are applicable to any field or discipline and they also encompass elementary technical writing, a broad field that includes most forms of professional writing.

Essentially, Basic Forms of Professional and Technical Writing serves as a starting point or a handy reference for those beginning new jobs that involve writing tasks (or for those who want to have such jobs), for those in the latter portion of their high school careers, for those in college who seek to begin building their careers; or for those who have no idea what professional writing is, but need to figure it out. This book can help those making career changes and those who might want to simply practice their professional writing from time to time.

This book is NOT a grammar handbook or a documentation style guide; this book can help readers begin to put together common documents and it provides modification suggestions on the models within each chapter for various fields or uses. Readers will not find a ton of citations throughout the book because it relies on the author's own instructional pedagogies. Each chapter focuses on lessons the author has honed through years of teaching, writing, and listening to students’ feedback (both present and past) on what was essential and effective.

Ultimately, Basic Forms of Professional and Technical Writing helps readers learn how to compose basic professional or technical writing documents quickly. Although this book targets a more general audience and one that requires quick, accessible, and elementary instruction, it can prepare readers for any professional writing task.
