Becoming an Engineer and Teaming on Design Projects

Reid Bailey, Ph.D. is a Professor of Systems Engineering at the University of Virginia, where he also serves as Founding Director of the UVA in Argentina and UVA in Sweden study abroad programs and Director of the Rodman Scholars Program. He earned a B.S.E. from Duke University and both an M.S. and Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Bailey's teaching and research focus on engineering design education, systems thinking, sustainability, and industrial ecology. He is widely recognized for integrating real-world, client-based design projects into engineering curricula, leading interdisciplinary educational initiatives, and mentoring student design teams.
