Recently there has been an explosion of interest in the communicative role of humor at work (Holmes & Marra, 2006; Holmes & Stubbe, 2003; Martin, 2004; Mullany, 2004; Lynch 2002, 2007, 2009a, 2010; Tracy, Myers, & Scott, 2006; Westwood & Rhodes, 2007). Using a broad brush, these studies focus on how humor facilitates the formation and maintenance of organizational culture and its members’ identities at work.
