John B. Scanlan comes by his interest in writing honestly, as his mother was a book editor and newspaper reporter and his father a sales engineer who accepted his son’s lack of math aptitude. He reckons he is on his fourth career, having started as a high school teacher, moving into business, settling in higher education, and then retiring in 2012. For more than 25 years he has taught career courses and advised students in all academic majors. He and his late wife Kathy have three children happily launched in their careers, a fourteen year old grandson leaning toward the sciences, and a five year old grandson who seems to spend a lot of time on his mom’s cell phone.
