The aim of this study is to clarify and understand how international baccalaureate (IB) students experience intercultural dialogue in an IB educational context. It is an attempt to illuminate student attitude, dialogue, and interaction. To give further meaning to the data links are drawn to relevant sociological theory, which will give an understanding of student behaviour in the different spaces of interaction and their participation in intercultural dialogue. The IB is a world-wide, two-year school program using English as a lingua franca (ELF) in the transition years between late high school and the first or second year at university. IB schools exist in a large number of countries, and the IB examination gives access to universities all over the world. The IB context enables an investigation of students engaging in intercultural dialogue. It also makes it possible to study how a variety of different cultures and nationalities, subject to the same educational conditions, experience intercultural dialogue.
