Industrial and Academic Experience
More than 40 years of academic and industrial experience that included Farmingdale and Stony Brook, State University of New York, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Atomic Energy of Canada Inc., Ontario Hydro, NASA Kennedy, and NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, and the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock, MD, USA.
Selected Career Development and Achievement
- Developed and directed the Institute for Research and Technology Transfer (IRTT) from June 1, 1996, to September 1, 2019.
- Directed the Research and Development Program for hydrogen production from biomass waste to power fuel cells and produced cost-effective combined heat and electric power from 2011 to 2019 –patented with the U.S. Patent Office in 2017.
- Participated in summer research programs “Faculty and Students Teams”—Office of Science— Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) from 2006 to 2011.
- Developed and taught robotics and 3D-applied laboratory courses using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to graduate and undergraduate students—September 1983 to present.
- Annual Merit Reviewer at the Hydrogen Program of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)— May 2001.

Patents
The U.S. Patent Office (USPO) has issued four patents to Dr. Tawfi k as an investigator in the following areas:
