Abstract

Lucy and Jason just got married and are eager to start their family. Lucy has always dreamed of settling down, getting married, and having a baby right away. Plus, her parents, Maria and Dennis, are constantly asking about when they will have a grandchild. After a few months of trying to get pregnant, Lucy decides to visit the doctor for a checkup and is diagnosed with endometriosis, a medical condition that may inhibit her ability to conceive. Later, Jason also visits the doctor and is diagnosed with fertility problems, rendering their chances of conceiving without medical intervention nearly impossible. Lucy and Jason always assumed they would follow the family master narrative and be able to grow their family biologically and without much trouble, so they are shocked and disappointed. After a lot of talking, they decide to seek fertility treatment. As the two embark on the journey of fertility treatment, they struggle with
how to tell friends and family, and what it means for their idea of parenthood. Just when Lucy was beginning to feel defeated and alone, her mom Maria confesses a family secret that will bring the two closer than ever.
