Jason Pourtaverdi, J.D., is a criminal defense expert, legal educator, and community leader with over 15 years of experience advocating in both state and federal courtrooms. He earned his Juris Doctor from Humphreys College Laurence Drivon School of Law and serves as a full-time lecturer in the Department of Criminal Justice at California State University, Stanislaus.
Jason is the founder of California DUI Advocates, LLC, a firm that provides non-attorney representation at DMV administrative hearings for clients facing DUI-related license suspensions. He also leads Stan Legal Docs, LLC, which offers legal document preparation services, advancing access to justice for Californians navigating the legal system without representation.
As an educator, Jason is deeply committed to preparing students for real-world legal work. His courses focus on constitutional rights, trial procedures, and the critical analysis of landmark case law, bridging the gap between academic learning and courtroom practice. His textbook, Criminal Judicial Process, reflects this mission—offering students a comprehensive and practical understanding of California’s criminal justice system through the lens of procedural fairness and individual rights.
Beyond the classroom, Jason has served for over eight years as Director and Co-Coordinator of the Faculty Mentor Program (FMP) at CSU Stanislaus, where he has mentored hundreds of first-generation and underrepresented college students. His leadership has helped secure grant funding, increase student retention, and promote academic achievement across diverse student populations.
Jason is also proud of his Assyrian heritage, and he actively supports cultural awareness and representation through campus and community initiatives. His work includes the formation of the Assyrian Faculty and Staff Association at CSU Stanislaus, an affinity group dedicated to celebrating Assyrian identity and creating networking opportunities for Assyrian professionals in higher education.
Above all, Jason draws strength and purpose from his family’s journey. As the son of immigrants who sacrificed everything for a better future in the United States, he carries a deep appreciation for his parents’ courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to opportunity and education. Their legacy of perseverance continues to inspire his work as an advocate, educator, and author.
When not teaching or advocating, Jason can be found working on his 40-acre almond orchard in California’s Central Valley—a reminder that growth, like justice, takes time, care, and dedication.
