Discrete Math: The Graphic Novel:
- Is fun to read.
- Features content sections that serve as short, easy to read overviews of many standard topics. Students can read the appropriate section of the graphic novel, then read, in more depth, the material in the textbook.
- Can be flexibly sequenced without interrupting the story continuity. This allows instructors to easily use the graphic novel with any standard Discrete Mathematics textbook.
- Is a useful part of an exam review. Repeatedly rereading a textbook does not aid learning. The graphic novel provides a quick reminder of the topics. The student can then look at some key sections of the main textbook to deepen that review.
- Provides more opportunity to explore some common errors in student thinking.
- Integrates a story thread that models the kinds of questions that a successful student would ask.
- Offers a number of interesting puzzles, purely for engaging the reader’s interest.
- Presents many helpful research-based study tips.

Gossett
Gossett is Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science Emeritus in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science within the College of Arts and Sciences at Bethel University. He earned a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of California, followed by an M.S. and Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Arizona. His academic contributions include pioneering the use of Mathematica in the curriculum and publishing Discrete Mathematics with Proof, Second Edition. He also developed Bethel’s first generation of web services and supported student engagement through involvement in campus organizations, including serving as faculty sponsor of the Bethel Anime Club.
