In addition to being a content-based guide to the Earth's biomes for ESL students, the second edition of Earth, Wind, Fire and Water: An ESL Student's Guide to the Biomes of the World emphasizes Bloom's Revised Taxonomy, systematically explaining and applying each descriptor, which is then integrated into a final project. Through a collection of grammar focusing, decoding, critical thinking and reading activities, instructors can use this text to aid students understand the complex environmental issues. Using each biome from the poles to the Equator, the book elicits academic vocabulary naturally. Accompanying the second edition is an app through which students can practice approximately 200 of the text's primary academic vocabulary ( derived from the AWL). This book is intended primarily for CEFR B1 or B2 students.

Udry
Larry Udry has been an ESL/ EFL instructor, Editor, Writer, and Online Instructor for almost 35 years. He graduated in 1985 with BA degrees in Economics and English Literature from the University of Cincinnati. In 1992, after a two-year stint in the Peace Corps, he graduated with an MA from Ohio University in Linguistics and Applied ESL/EFL methodology. Since then, he has worked at the University of Tennessee Martin where he was chosen as the Outstanding Instructor in 1996. While there, he served on the TNTESOL Board as Newsletter Editor and was active with Partners of the Americas. Also, during his time there, he lived in worked in Venezuela as a Teacher Trainer and in Japan as an EFL Instructor. Since 2003, he has worked at Divine Word College, a small Catholic seminary for missionaries in rural Iowa. He is an active member of TESOL where he has edited the CALL-IS Newsletter and served on the Steering Committee since 2005. From his experiences as the CALL-IS Newsletter editor, he wrote "Earth, Wind, Fire, Water: An ESL Student's Guide to the Biomes of the World." He is continually strengthened by his students, who in some cases, have come from very difficult situations, yet still, strive to become better and to make the world a better place.
