Dr. Heather Lench is Senior Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs, Professor, and Interim Head of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Texas A&M. Her research lies at the intersection of affective science, personality processes, and social and personality psychology, with a focus on understanding how emotions shape human thought, behavior, and decision-making. She investigates the role of affective reactions in future-oriented thinking, including how people form expectations about future events and how specific emotions influence judgment, optimism, and cognitive functioning.
Dr. Lench's research is grounded in the premise that emotional processes are fundamental to behavior and cognition. Through her work, she examines when and why particular emotions can enhance decision-making and adaptive functioning, contributing to a deeper understanding of emotion, cognition, and personality.
Dr. Rebecca Schlegel is a Professor and Associate Head of Undergraduate Studies and Programs. She is a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science (APS) and the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP). Her research is grounded in personality processes and social and personality psychology, with a particular focus on the concepts of the true self, well-being, and meaning in life.
