I came of age listening to hip-hop. It provided me with a powerful lens to help process the seemingly chaotic world around me. It was through the prism of this music and culture that I was able to gain a better understanding of race, gender, socioeconomics, and aesthetics. Hip-hop has a unique ability to transcend time, place, race, gender, and perhaps even species according to my beloved cat Jackson (below). Hopefully, this book and course can help provide you with some fraction of the same growth and purpose this music and culture has shared with me over the years.
