Examining addiction through a biblical lens reveals its roots when sin entered the world during the Fall of Man in the Garden of Eden. Yet, there is hope in Christ’s redemptive work. When God redeems an individual, He begins to restore the original image of God, creating a “new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:24). Through Christ, we are made new creations in the likeness of God (2 Corinthians 5:17). While full restoration awaits His return, treatment rooted in a biblical worldview can provide healing. By recognizing individuals as image bearers of God, treatment approaches can nurture spiritual growth, accountability, and purpose, ultimately leading to restoration in Christ.
