The Human Anatomy and Physiology Lab Manual provides students with hands-on learning experiences that reinforce the fundamental concepts of human anatomy and physiology. Through laboratory activities, clinical scenarios, dissections, worksheets, and investigative exercises, the manual guides students in exploring the structure and function of the human body. Beginning with an introduction to body organization and tissues, the manual progresses through each major body system, including the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, urinary, lymphatic, immune, and reproductive systems.
Throughout the manual, students apply anatomical and physiological concepts using a variety of interactive laboratory exercises such as sheep brain and pig heart dissections, spirometry, urinalysis, blood typing, ELISA antibody testing, and clinical case studies. These activities encourage critical thinking, scientific observation, and problem-solving while helping students connect laboratory findings to real-world medical and healthcare applications. By integrating practical skills with foundational biological knowledge, the manual prepares students for further study in anatomy, physiology, nursing, allied health, and other healthcare professions.

Camille DiScala, M.D. is Emeritus Professor of biology at Chandler-Gilbert
Community College, one of ten community colleges of the Maricopa County
Community College District in the state of Arizona. Her classes consisted of
human anatomy and physiology as well as medical terminology and human
pathophysiology for health care workers. She received her bachelor’s degree
in biological sciences from Herbert H. Lehman College of the City University
of New York. She then went on to pursue a career in medicine and graduated
from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York. Her post
doctoral specialty is in the field of pediatrics.
Dr. DiScala has always been interested in teaching and has been devoted to her students and their
aspirations. Many of her students pursue careers in social work, nursing, nurse practitioner, physician
assistant, medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, respiratory technology, radiology technology, dental
hygiene, massage therapy, dance, art, and teaching. She shared her clinical experiences and stories
from the field with her students, making the experience of learning the human body more realistic
and fascinating.
Dr. DiScala supports the local theater and symphony and spends time outdoors swimming, bike
riding, horseback riding and playing badminton. Her other passion is music and she loves to dance,
play the piano, guitar, drums, and congas. One of her favorite pastimes was jamming with the col
lege “garage band,” The Dropouts. She also enjoys performing in the Chandler-Gilbert Community
College Concert band as a percussionist.
Dr. DiScala continues helping students as a board member of the Maricopa Colleges Faculty
Foundation.
