This eBook has been designed for active learners who are interested in beginning their study of international affairs. This book utilizes an interactive map that allows users to investigate a range of information pertaining to international relations, American foreign policy, and dynamic events in the international environment.
This book is arranged into fourteen chapters, divided into four sections and covers a broad range of topics in international relations, from history and theory of international relations to international economic relations and trade. The goal of this book is to provide a jumping off point for student research and an introduction to the breadth of international politics from a U.S. perspective.
Unlike other print textbooks, this textbook is incorporated into a web-based platform, which utilizes an interactive map and other features to aid active learners in reading and research. Readers are guided to investigate aspects of international relations in each chapter, and by using the interactive map they may examine key details about the relationship each country has with the United States. The map tabs allow you to change the information provided by the interactive map without leaving the page.
Chapter narratives move the reader through each topic, using citations of a broad range of sources, to provide a diverse and engaging perspective regarding international affairs. Each chapter is detailed but relatively short and focuses on key aspects of the topic. Chapters provide links for further research, as well as research questions to help guide students in exploring each topic in more detail.
Each chapter reading provides the opportunity for the reader to learn and understand the issues presented without asserting an opinion or judgement, instead, relies on the reader’s own interest in exploring these topics beyond their initial presentation in the textbook. By the time you reach the end of this textbook, you will have acquired the skill necessary for quality web-based research. You will also have developed analytical, interpretive, and critical thinking skills, in addition to a strong foundation of international relations knowledge.
