Mark Knapp

Mark L. Knapp (PhD, Pennsylvania State University) is the Jesse H. Jones Centennial Professor Emeritus in Communication and Distinguished. Teaching Professor Emeritus at The University of Texas at Austin. He co-edited the Handbook of Interpersonal Communication and The Interplay of Truth and Deception. In addition to authoring and then co-authoring Lying and Deception in Human Interaction, he co-authored Nonverbal Communication in Human Interaction and Interpersonal Communication in Human Relationships. He is past president and fellow of the International Communication Association and past president and distinguished scholar of the National Communication Association.

Anita Vangelisti

Anita L. Vangelisti is the Jesse H. Jones Centennial Professor of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin. Her work focuses on communication and emotion in close, personal relationships. She has published numerous articles and chapters as well as several books including The Routledge Handbook of Family Communication, The Cambridge Handbook of Personal Relationships, and Hurt Feelings in Close Relationships. Vangelisti has served on the editorial boards of over a dozen scholarly journals. She is a Distinguished Scholar of the National Communication Association, a Fellow of the International Communication Association, and served as President of the International Association for Relationship Research. Vangelisti has received awards for her work from the National Communication Association, the International Society for the Study of Personal Relationships, and the International
Association for Relationship Research.

JOHN CAUGHLIN

John P. Caughlin (Ph.D., University of Texas at Austin, 1997) is Professor and Head in the Department of Communication at the University of Illinois. His research focuses on effective face-to-face and mediated communication in relationship, family, and health contexts. He has co-authored or co-edited two books and more than 75 journal articles and book chapters. He has served as the Executive Officer of the Campus Research Board at Illinois. He is a past Associate Editor for the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, has been a member of 14 editorial boards, and is currently one of the General Editors for a book series at Cambridge University Press. He is a Fellow of the International Association for Relationship Research, a Fellow of the International Communication Association, and he has received the Bernard Brommel Award for Outstanding Scholarship or Distinguished Service in Family Communication from the National Communication Association.
