This textbook is an eclectic approach to examining concepts in Interpersonal Communication. Each chapter focuses on a theory that includes ideas for a healthy personal relationship. The concepts include such items as self-disclosure, identity, emotions, needs and desires, effective communication, responsibility, helping relationships, and meaning. Each theory suggests how to communicate with another person to have a healthy relationship. In addition to discussing each theory, each chapter gives communication tips and has an exercise at the end that allows for application of some concepts. Hopefully students can appreciate the variety of ways of viewing Interpersonal Communication and relationships, as well as applying some of the ideas in their own communication and relationships.
