Introduction to Modern Dance provides guidance for the inexperienced dance student, and the student that is new to modern dance, especially for those taking a modern dance class at a college or university.  The information contained in this book provides new dancers with alternative and holistic approaches to training in dance.  The book is organized into 10 chapters. Chapters 1-4 introduce the student to the history of modern dance and prepare them psychologically and physically for dance classes.  Chapter 5 introduces the student to the unique relationship music has with dance.  Chapter 6 provides useful dance conditioning modalities to accompany any genre of dance.  Chapter 7 delves into modern dance technique, while chapters 8, 9 and 10 cover improvisation, choreography, and performance.  The goal of this book is to provide a complementary resource that aids in the dance experience as a whole. 

Wendy E. Hassenpflug

Wendy Hassenpflug, M.S., is a lecturer at California State University, Northridge, an adjunct faculty at College of the Canyons, and founder of Vayu Yoga® and Living Vibrantly by Design.  For over thirty years, she has worked professionally as a teacher, dancer, choreographer, and director.  She has worked with the Disney Institute, World Football League San Antonio Riders Gold Dust Girl, Le Jazz Noir, Martin Dance Company, and Aerial Experience Productions.  She also works as a wellness professional, a master practitioner of neuro linguistic programming, emotion code practitioner, certified personal trainer, holistic nutritionist, yoga alliance registered yoga teacher, and PMA certified Pilates teacher.  As an author she has published Namaste: A Journey Within the Art & Practice of Yoga.
