Literacy Assessment: A Practical Guide for Assessing Reading and Writing in Grades K-3 brings together the latest research on various aspects of literacy assessment. Readers will start by exploring Scarborough’s Reading Rope, a framework that helps teachers and assessors identify which specific skills a student may be struggling with.
The guidebook then takes a closer look at each component of reading—phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension—emphasizing how to assess each area effectively. Additionally, readers will have the opportunity to review specific assessment tools and download PDF versions for their use.
As this is a guidebook, you'll come across various interactive features, such as:
- A Graphic Organizer at the start of each chapter, enabling readers to actively structure their learning as they read.
- Stop and Jot, where readers can pause to reflect and write about the content in each chapter.
- Highlights or key concepts at the conclusion of each chapter.
This guidebook is designed to engage readers while offering practical assessment strategies and materials for the K-3 classroom.
