How to be a successful college students is a question that has been asked for hundreds of years. This book will look at five broad areas where students in higher education struggle. Tips, strategies and reflection exercises will help the reader determine the barriers they’re encountering, how to get over, around, under, or through those barriers to be successful.
By establishing competencies in five basic areas; how to be an independent person, how to identify problems and barriers, using coping skills, self-advocacy (once you’ve figured out the problem and what you want to happen, how to communicate that) and where to ask for help, students will be well on their way to success.

Dr. Susie Rood has worked in higher education for the past 21 years. She has taught education and psychology courses and helps students understand and make the transition from high school or time out of school into college. Dr. Rood holds degrees in special education for the hearing impaired, Bilingual Education and TESOL, Psychology, and Educational Leadership. Dr. Rood lives with her husband (who is a college math teacher) and daughter (who is a college student) and three cats (who have never attended college).
