Mr. Mac Taking Music Into the Classroom: Music for Elementary Educators focuses on integrating music education into elementary classrooms through practical activities, lesson planning, and creative teaching strategies. The material introduces foundational concepts of rhythm, pitch, melody, musical terminology, and cultural connections while demonstrating how educators can use music activities to support student engagement, learning, and expression.

The course emphasizes hands-on approaches to teaching music, including rhythm games, movement activities, African music and culture, instrument creation using everyday materials, and the development of general music lesson plans. Raymond McNamara

Ray McNamara is no ordinary musician. His eclectic performances range from working with Gustavo Dudamel and LA Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl to Tim Robbins and the Actors’ Gang’s staging of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” He’s also competed with a top steel pan band in the “Panorama International Steel Pan Festival” in Trinidad and recorded the musical score for Disney’s “A Bug’s Life.” All these experiences inform Ray’s teaching. His passion for teaching kids was reignited when he saw the deficiencies in music education at his son’s and daughter’s elementary school. In response, he created an all-inclusive music program to supplement his children’s education. He has taught music at every age and academic level, from preschool to college students to elders. At California State University Channel Islands, Ray teaches “Understanding Dance and Music in Elementary Education,” where he inspires students to discover their passion for the arts and integrate it into their curriculums. In addition, he teaches African drumming and steel drum ensembles as well as private lessons on drums and other percussion instruments.
