Dr. Sarah Beth May is an Associate Professor of Music at Centralia College, where she has served since 2015, and she has been the Faculty Director of Teaching and Learning since 2021. She specializes in music composition and has developed expertise through extensive study and creative work in contemporary music. Her academic training includes composition studies with renowned composers and educators, as well as experience in advancing music education and faculty development.
Dr. May earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Composition from The University of Texas at Austin in 2010, where her dissertation was Iridescence, a concerto for oboe and orchestra. She also holds a Master of Music in Composition from the Yale University School of Music and a Bachelor of Music in Composition/Theory from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she graduated with high honors.
