DeSean Jackson is a wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles. Besides being a professional athlete, Mr. Jackson has many interests that include: acting, modeling, and song writing. He actively supports the Wounded Warrior Project, antibullying campaigns, and the fight against pancreatic cancer. William T. Hoston
Dr. William T. Hoston, Sr., Ph.D., is Professor of Political Science and also serves as an Associate Dean at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) in the Marvin D. and June Samuel Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences. Prior to joining PVAMU, he held professorships at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) and Wichita State University (WSU).
He holds teaching and research interests in the areas of minority voting behavior, political behavior of Black politicians, race and minority group behavior, Black masculinity, sexualities and gender, race and crime, and theories and dynamics of racism and oppression. An award-winning teacher and scholar, Dr. Hoston is the recipient of many teaching awards, including the National Society of Leadership and Success excellence in teaching award, and the Minnie Stevens Piper Professor award, which recognizes superior teaching at Texas higher education institutions.
Dr. Hoston’s written work traverses multiple genres, including editorials, essays, fiction, and poetry. He is the author or editor of nineteen books. His academic publications include: Toxic Silence: Race, Black Gender Identity, and Addressing the Violence against Black Transgender Women in Houston (2018), Race and the Black Male Subculture: The Lives of Toby Waller (2016), and Black Masculinity in the Obama Era: Outliers of Society (2014). Dr. Hoston’s last academic book, Toxic Silence, won the 2019 Lambda 176 new perspectives on race & ethnicity Literary Award in the ‘LGBTQ studies’ category. The Lambda Literary Awards is considered “the most prestigious and comprehensive literary award offered specifically to authors who write books about the LGBTQ experience” in the world.
