Nobody Wins begins with a difficult but necessary truth: domestic violence doesn’t just happen in extreme cases, it often starts quietly, in relationships that seem normal on the surface. For young adults, learning to recognize, resist, and heal from abusive dynamics is not only urgent, it’s life-changing. This guide offers a clear, compassionate path for understanding the many forms abuse can take and how to break free from its cycle.

This is more than a book about violence, it’s a guide to building healthy relationships from the inside out. It explores how emotional abuse, manipulation, and control can erode self-worth, and how self-awareness, boundaries, and healing can restore it. With honesty and care, the book tackles why people stay in harmful relationships, how to identify red flags early, and what it really means to love, and respect, yourself and others.

What makes Nobody Wins especially impactful is its focus on empowerment. It teaches readers how to cultivate self-respect, emotional intelligence, and healthy communication, while also exploring how culture, identity, and personal history shape how we love. Real-world insights and reflective prompts turn learning into action, helping readers not just to understand the problem but to actively prevent it, in their lives and their communities.

Ultimately, Nobody Wins is a call to courage. It offers young people the tools to end cycles of harm, develop meaningful connections, and build a future where safety and respect are non-negotiable. Whether you’re seeking to heal, support someone you love, or avoid harmful patterns, this book is a vital resource for creating stronger, safer, and more authentic relationships.

Justin Lawrence

Justin Lawrence is a nationally recognized expert in Title IX and Sexual Assault Prevention, known for his leadership in training, compliance, and the development of equitable institutional policies. He currently serves as the Title IX Administrator at Wayland Baptist University, where he is also the Associate Dean of the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Professor of Legal Studies and Criminal Justice. In these roles, he brings together academic insight, legal expertise, and a deep commitment to transforming campus culture.

Justin teaches both undergraduate and graduate-level courses on Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Victim Advocacy, and Trauma-Informed Investigations, and is one of only a handful of professionals in the U.S. who have received specialized training from the FBI and the NYPD Special Victims Unit. His comprehensive knowledge base uniquely positions him to navigate complex cases with sensitivity, fairness, and rigor.

As a Certified Title IX Administrator, Justin specializes in the training, investigation, adjudication, and administrative compliance of cases involving sexual discrimination, harassment, and assault, including incidents related to relationship violence, gender bias, and misconduct within athletic departments, faculty, staff, fraternities, sororities, and other campus groups. His expertise extends across both K–12 and higher education, and he regularly trains and certifies Title IX Coordinators, ensuring that institutions are equipped to handle these responsibilities ethically and lawfully.

A leader in the intersection of athletics and civil rights, Justin regularly provides tailored training to NCAA and NAIA athletic departments, coaching staff, and student-athletes across the country. His sessions focus on the complex dynamics of sexual violence, interpersonal violence, and high-risk populations, helping athletic programs navigate these sensitive areas while fostering safer and more respectful team cultures.

Justin has worked with school districts, universities, and policy organizations to design policies that go beyond compliance, supporting the implementation of best practices that honor both legal mandates and the realities of campus life. He consults regularly with system-level conduct officers, university discipline committees, and executive leaders to strengthen institutional responses and enhance equity.

Known for his ability to connect with diverse audiences, from student-athletes and campus staff to senior administrators and policymakers, Justin is praised not only for his sharp legal acumen, but for his compassion, clarity, and sense of humor, which make even the most challenging topics accessible and engaging. His work continues to transform institutions and individual lives alike by shifting the culture from reactive compliance to proactive, values-driven leadership in equity and safety.
