Dr. Daphne Cooper is a Professor of Political Science and Chair of the Department of History and Political Science at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. A distinguished scholar in Public Policy, Poverty, and African American Politics, Dr. Cooper’s research challenges traditional approaches to understanding systemic inequality and public policy. She is the author of The Persistent Poverty of African Americans in the United States: The Impact of Public Policy (Anthem Press, 2024), PowerPlay: Navigating American Government and Politics (Kendall Hunt, 2024), and The Essentials of American Government (Great River Learning, 2022). Her recent chapters appear in Dream and Legacy, Volume II: Revisiting King in the Post–Civil Rights Era and The State of Black America: Progress, Pitfalls, and the Promise of the Republic.
