This text is for anyone who wants to have a quick, yet thorough understanding of the basics of accounting and finance; for anyone who wants to know what a budget is and how to prepare one; or to have a better understanding of financial statements and how to prepare and interpret them. This book can also be beneficial for decision makers who prepare budgets, to help them understand and interpret financial statements without extensive training.

Many students and several business leaders find learning finance and accounting difficult and discover they cannot always use what they have learned after completing a course. Why is this the case? It is often because textbooks are difficult to read. Most finance and accounting books are valuable and informative, however, many students do not find this to be the case. Students dread taking finance and accounting courses and express frustration when they do not always learn what they need or expect.

Objectives:

  • To provide a resource with a focus on real-world problems that can be immediately applied.
  • Offer a series of questions with answers as a powerful learning tool to help the student immediately understand and apply financial and accounting concepts.
  • End-of-chapter mini cases with study questions allow the students to practice what they have learned by working through a hands-on, real-world scenario and serve as a resource with a focus on practical and real-world questions and answers where students and business managers can practice thinking and applying what they are learning in real time.

The goal of this text is to help students and business managers retain the information better and readily use what they have learned. The text was designed so an instructor can use the material for a stand-alone accounting or finance course or use it as a supplemental resource for both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
