We live in a society with many challenges and problems inherent to the lack of personal fitness, physical activity, and attention to our physical well-being.
Today’s physical education college majors of today must be educated as professionals for all students K-12 in their physical education classes, and must also be educated for the prospective majors in fitness, recreation, athletic training, coaching, personal training, sports management and marketing, corporate fitness, adult education, and many other tangent fields.
The new third edition of Tom Rogan’s The Profession of Physical Education introduces new and returning students to the profession of Physical Education with all its dynamic and related fields. This edition includes much updated information and major developments of the profession to fulfill the requirements of today’s students’ ever changing and diverse subject matter and content.
Based on Tom Rogan’s 45 years of professional and education experience, The Profession of Physical Education:
- Brings the full transition of the national alliance from the AAHPERD (American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance) to SHAPE America (Society for Health and Physical Educators.)
- Recognizes the immediate impact of the retiring baby boomers from education, and addresses the needs of future teachers entering the profession.
- Addresses the predicted teacher shortages in the future, and emphasizes the importance of a future teacher’s knowledge and ability to communicate their curriculum in an organized fashion, with energy and enthusiasm, as a person with integrity and morals.
- Discusses and prepares future teachers to meet the challenges of Healthy People 2020 with a rigorous required curriculum for all our Physical Education majors outlined in this text.
- Is Student Friendly! Each chapter includes Professional Topics of the Day, study exercises to keep students on track, journal listings, web links, and more.
