Now more than ever, the world needs critical thinkers who are able to deliver an engaging message with clarity, verity and vitality. In the inclusionary and nuanced Public Speaking: A Bridge to Success, Simmons helps build the bridge from anxiety and trepidation for the diffident and discouraged budding speaker to success in a variety of public speaking situations.
The author provides the tools for students to overcome anxiety, design better presentations and integrate research, ethics, body language and use of voice into the foundation of how they present and who they are in the world. This book provides the tools and enables students to “build their bridge” with a new lens through which to view communication and public speaking and provides a solid foundation for success. The student will understand the importance of communication frameworks, audience analysis, avoiding fallacy and how to speak truth to power
The goal is to help prepare students to have the foundational skills to deliver in any public speaking context. Throughout the textbook, students are encouraged to understand the science and art of public speaking, to be honest and truthful in their presentation of information and to develop their “voice”.
