This four volume series presents to students of American religion a collection of primary source materials that serves to illustrate the ethno-racial dimensions of religion in America beyond its usual European expressions. The ethno-racial religious communities featured in this anthology broadly include Native American, African American, Asian American, and an array of Latino communities. A unique feature of these volumes is that their readings come from within the communities themselves, rather than from researchers commenting upon these communities from the outside. Thus, students reading these selections will come to hear the voices and sense the deeply-felt passion, sorrow, frustration, hope, and joy of those individuals who were or are still part of the important conversations at the heart of these four ethno-racial communities’ ongoing dialogue and debates within themselves.
