Relationship Wreckage and Recovery in an Alcoholic Family

Abstract

The Browns seemed to be a typical family. Thomas and Lily met in college and later fell in love. They married, had two children, and were financially secure. The Browns, however, had a secret: Thomas could not control his drinking. Ultimately Thomas’s problem became public. This case study illustrates how family members respond differently to alcohol use disorder and to recovery.
