Rock 'n' Roll: Origins & Innovators - ONLINE Section

Dr. Timothy Jones is the Vice Dean for the UNLV College of Fine Arts and formerly Coordinator of Percussion Studies, History of Rock and Fine Arts First Year Seminars at UNLV. Dr. Jones performs in Las Vegas, nationally, and internationally as a freelance percussionist and presents master classes on a variety of topics all over the world. Dr. Jones’ publications include the book Rock ‘n’ Roll Origins and Innovators, and percussion articles for Percussive Notes, DrumScene and Not So Modern Drummer. His TEDx talk, the Marimba, appears in Cengage’s Teaching Percussion enhanced edition, and the 2018 film The Wood That Sings serves as an educational piece in the PAS Rhythm Discovery Center in Indianapolis. Dr. Jones has a long list of performing credits including the Las Vegas Opera, the Las Vegas Philharmonic, Mary Wilson, Andrea Bocelli, Michael Buble, Sarah Brightman, Josh Groban, David Foster, Buddy Greco, Natalie Merchant, Don Rickles, the Irish Tenors, the Wild Celts, Mojo Risin’ among others. Dr. Jones endorses Schlagkraft, Vic Firth, Sabian, Remo, Grover Pro Percussion, and Majestic Percussion. In 2022 he also earned a WSET level 3 sommelier certification.

Jim McIntosh attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in guitar performance. Jim McIntosh has been on the faculty at UNLV since 1994 teaching History of Rock. 

He began working as a professional guitarist in Las Vegas in 1981 and has played many shows including Legends in Concert 1985- 1999, David Cassidy and Sheena Easton 2000-2001, Mamma Mia 2003-2008, Jersey Boys 2008-2016, Vegas The Show 2022-2025. Jim has also worked with many artists including Penn & Teller, Kenny Rogers, Lyle Lovett, Billy Preston, Slash, David Foster, Little Anthony and The Imperials, Petula Clark, The Lon Bronson band, Michael Grimm and many others. 

Jim has also recorded two solo albums that included Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, Jeff Beck, The Neville bros, John Scofield and Mike Stern. Jim's second album "Jimmy McIntosh and..." received Downbeat online magazine's editors pick January 2015. 

Also through Jim's musical relationship with Ronnie Wood, Ronnie donated the use of one of his paintings for the book cover for "Rock n Roll origins and innovators" by Tim Jones and Jim McIntosh"
