Take 2: The Horror and Romantic Comedy Genres surveys the history, narrative content, and cinematic technique of two of Hollywood’s most popular and enduring genres. Both genres traffic in foundational elements of the human experience: the nature of evil and death in horror, and the vicissitudes of courtship and romantic love in romantic comedies.

Building on scholarly research, Alberhasky provides a summary of the dominant horror and romantic comedy film cycles throughout Hollywood’s history, and then identifies character types, plot moves, themes, and cinematic technique relevant to each genre. Analysis of important films from the 1930s to the twenty-first century is provided throughout.

Accessible and informative, Take 2 is an excellent introduction to two of Hollywood’s most beloved genres.
