I wrote These Stories Saved My Life to remember and honor the people and circumstances that touched my heart deeply. Each person and situation included in this collection taught me valuable life lessons. Through these stories I learned the meaning of gratitude, compassion, and love.

I deeply appreciate all the people and experiences because they made me a better person. I am humbled and honored to share my life lessons with anyone who reads These Stories Saved My Life.

Furahaa Saba

Furahaa Saba is the author of, These Stories Saved My Life, a creative fiction work published by Innovative Ink Publishing in July 2024. This works presents experiences of growing up in the south in the late fifties and sixties.

At an early age Furahaa developed an interest in all forms of artistic expression, reading, writing, creating plays and other forms of creativity. From the time she started attending school, learning to write her name to reading about people in other places, respect for the processes of reading and writing were instilled in her.

Education was a life-changing process that influenced and fueled her entire life. She devoted herself to helping others become educated. Her professional life has been dedicated to higher education.

Attending college at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan further enhanced her educational goals. She obtained a Master’s Degree in Communication from Bowling Green State University, Saba embarked on a career of teaching Communication Courses.

She began her teaching career at the University of Maryland, College Park, and continued at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. She has been held additional teaching assignments at St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida, Salisbury State University, Salisbury, Maryland.

Over the last twenty years Saba has taught communication courses at The University of San Diego, San Diego California, Mesa College San Diego, California and Grossmont Community College, El Cajon California.

She is the author of the course text, “How to Improve Your Interpersonal Communication Skills”, published by Great River Learning in July 2020.

In 2017, Saba formed a non-profit organization, SEECA (Soulful Educational Experience of Culture and Art, Inc.) to have a platform to examine issues of diversity and inclusion. From this organization she produced an online discussion series titled, “A Meaningful Conversation About Race.” Through this medium she inspires participants to examine issues related to race in their personal lives.

In her downtime, she enjoys reading, writing, and yoga. These mediums allow her to examine her experiences, and the challenges life presents.
