What would you do if you thought you could not fail? I was once asked this question and it broke my heart to hear so many incredible people share their dreams that were not being fulfilled due to the fear of failure. But my response was the one that shocked the room. There is nothing I would do if I thought I could not fail that I would not do now. My response was not one that I was born believing. This confidence I had in myself is one that I worked towards by working on my own self-efficacy. If there has ever been something you were worried that you could not succeed at, then changing your self-efficacy will change your life the way it changed mine.
So whether you plan to become a rock star, a star athlete, a writer, an entrepreneur, have a strong marriage, graduate from college, or whatever else your wildest dreams are, stop waiting until you no longer worry that failure could be an option. With this book, you will be able to follow my mantra of stop dreaming, start doing. Here is to chasing our wildest, prettiest dreams and stop waiting for failure to no longer be an option. Cheers to you and your dreams because our world needs it just as much as you do.

Paris Ryan has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in English literature with an emphasis in creative writing, and a doctorate in educational leadership with a focus on higher education. While earning her master’s degree, she was an editor for a local lifestyle magazine called Style and was the photojournalist and columnist for The Sacramento Bee’s cocktail column called Nightlife, which focused on the best happy hours in the area.
Her doctoral dissertation, Is Writing a Self-Perception Problem? Self-Efficacy and Student Success in First-Year Composition, focused on self-efficacy and student success in college composition, while her first book, Composing Composition: The Art of the Written Word, focused on how to improve your scholarly writing and how to write various types of academic essays.
She currently works as an English professor in sunny San Diego, CA and sits on the National Advisory Council for the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education. While she has taught students from P-12 to doctoral candidates, she likes spending most of her time teaching students who are attending community college. As the “ Doctor of Self-Efficacy,” her goal is to help you improve your own mindset and make your wildest dreams into reality. When she is not in the classroom, you can fi nd her writing, presenting research at regional and national conferences, traveling the world, or hanging out by the beach with her Chihuahua (and co-author), Brody.
