Juan Lopez grew up on a south Texas farm where his dad, Carlos, was a farm manager. Juan was what some people call an anchor baby, because he was born in the U.S. to undocumented parents. Juan is a single parent with one son named Luis. Juan and Luis try to make a life in the U.S., but it is hard. One of Juan’s many problems is that he looks almost identical to an armored car robber, which causes a prejudiced FBI agent and an aggressive IRS agent to pursue Juan exhaustively. A completely unrelated problem is created when Juan employs a farmhand who, unknown to Juan, was a drug dealer who stole money and drugs in a failed drug deal. This situation directs the other drug dealers to Juan’s farm because they believe Juan is a partner with the drug dealer-farmhand. While Juan is fighting for his livelihood and in some cases his life, Luis discovers a hidden treasure on Juan’s farm. The treasure was buried in a cave by a prominent businessman during the Civil War. However, Juan may die before determining if the treasure is of any value. During Juan’s ordeal, he meets Betty, a direct descendent of the businessman who buried the treasure. Juan is not interested in a romance with Betty or anyone else, but his heart says otherwise.
