Abstract
When it comes to getting into communication management in athletics, the earlier a student starts gaining experience, the better. Athletics encompasses so many different fields that a student may go into an internship set on one area and then realize they are more interested in pursuing something different. Talking to staff throughout a department will expose a student to everything that goes into running a department and the sporting events that department hosts.
No matter where a student is working, or what his or her job description is, they should also be willing to help out with whatever is needed (as well as whenever possible). Don’t be too good for any task. There are many opportunities to volunteer at local and conference events, and making the effort to work those events is helpful to getting your foot in the door with a new group of contacts.
