About the Author

Mitchell A. Morrison

Dr. Mitch Morrison currently serves as an Associate Professor and Associate Dean of Liberty University’s School of Aeronautics in Lynchburg, Virginia. Captain Morrison retired from the Coast Guard in 2015 after logging 6800 flying hours as a military aviator over 30+ years. He served in various leader roles including the Coast Guard’s Deputy Director of Health, Safety, Work-Life and Chief of Aviation Safety. Dr. Morrison earned a Ph.D. in Business Administration, Master of Aeronautical Science and Bachelor of Professional Aeronautics degrees. Mitch is also a FAA-certified helicopter and airplane flight instructor and FAA-rated helicopter Airline Transport Pilot.   

Dr. Morrison’s specialty areas include leader transformation and learner discipleship, and as a researcher, he has presented at conferences on the topics of error recognition, interdisciplinary learning, and safety leadership/culture. In 2013, he wrote Teamworks: Transforming Health Care’s Error-Prone Culture.   

In addition to his military and academic roles, Mitch has led in various ministries as a trustee/elder chairman, life group leader, communion facilitator, and worship team keyboardist. Mitch is a board director for Mission Safety International, a non-profit team supporting flying safety for Christian missionary organizations since 1983. Mitch and his wife Elizabeth have been married for 28 years and live in Forest, Virginia. The Morrisons have four children: Cam, Hunter, Spencer, and Bethany. 

Mitch is a certified Five Capitals coach and founder and CEO of Wxrks LLC.
