Case Analysis to Strategic Plan: Preparing Students to Prepare Client-Based Strategic Plans
Case studies are a tested teaching strategy. Most case studies focus on talking about the client and what they did and not planning for their future. I will discuss how to use cases as live client substitutes and as preparation for real client work.
Teaching cases has its challenges. Students can be overconfident and many existing case studies are only designed to diagnose problems or are carefully scripted to fit a narrow chapter lesson within a textbook.
This 30-Minute Webinar presents strategies to move students beyond the confines of the case and its past and empowering them to create a fully implementable strategic plan. It explains the often missing element is looking forward into the unknown future, using marketing theory and research beyond the case and the textbook letting students prepare viable solutions that deepen their understanding and provide true simulations and preparation for successful client-based projects.
This webinar is presented by Dr. Renée Fontenot (Georgia College). For 30 years she has worked with businesses across a range of industries and different points in their lifecycle. Over the past 20 years, she has coached roughly 3,000 students through client-based projects for over 325 unique clients. Clients have come from across a broad spectrum, for-profit and not-for-profit, small and medium-sized, start-up through decline. The cases are all real situations from real clients. She is the author of Strategic Marketing Cases: Smallville, Midville, & Grandville (https://he.kendallhunt.com/fontenot) through Kendall Hunt Publishing.
