Victor Talmadge

Victor Talmadge is an educator, actor, playwright and director. He most recently held the Aurelia Henry Reinhardt Professorship and is Professor of Practice and Director of the Theater Studies Program, Mills College at Northeastern University. Prior to working at Mills, he was Interim Chair of the Performing Arts Department and Faculty Professor of Acting at Santa Fe University of Art and Design. He has taught acting/playwriting for Johns Hopkins University, New York University and served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor for the City University of New York. 

As an actor he has performed in over 100 professional classical and contemporary plays on the New York stage and in regional theaters throughout the country. He worked on Broadway in the world premiere of David Mamet's, November. He played “The King” in the Tony Award winning production of the Broadway National tour of The King and I for which he received the Bay Area Theater Critics Award, and was seen as Scar in the Los Angeles production of The Lion King

As a playwright, his play, The Gate of Heaven, was awarded The Nakashima Peace Prize. It was the first live theater to be produced at The U.S. Holocaust Memorial and has been subsequently performed at The Old Globe Theater, Fords Theater, and The Annenberg Center, as well as various venues around the country. His play, Kiss Good-Bye The Howling Beast was a finalist at the 1988 Actor’s Theater of Louisville Short Play Contest. Mr. Talmadge’s earlier piece, Utopia, was read at the Berlin Theater Festival. 

As a director, Mr. Talmadge has presented both experimental and classical pieces in both educational and professional venues. His work has been seen on both coasts. He was the artistic director of THE VICTORY PROJECT, a collaborative event with the NYC school system, Columbia University Graduate theater students and professional theater artists that was created as a response to the tragedy of 9/11. 

Victor Talmadge boasts extensive film and television credits, as well. He has worked with such notable directors as Francis Ford Coppola, William Friedkin, David Fincher, Michael Apted and Chantal Ackerman and Joe Johnston and was a recurring character on the network series MANHATTAN. He also co-founded the award winning Theater Company, The Empire Stage Players in New York. He is the recipient of a Zellerbach Family Fund Grant, a National Foundation for Jewish Culture Grant and was a 1994 Fulbright Visiting Artist Finalist for his project with the Bosnian refugees in Slovenia.

He has worked with such notable directors as Francis Ford Coppola, William Friedkin, David Fincher, Michael Apted and Chantal Ackerman and Joe Johnston and was a recurring character on the network series MANHATTAN. He also co-founded the award winning Theater Company, The Empire Stage Players in New York. He is the recipient of a Zellerbach Family Fund Grant, a National Foundation for Jewish Culture Grant and was a 1994 Fulbright Visiting Artist Finalist for his project with the Bosnian refugees in Slovenia.
