Portales Comunidad Y Cultura features a systematic integration of skills and culture and a student-centered approach to the learning and teaching of Spanish in a lively, cutting-edge communicative format.

Now separated into two volumes for first/second semester intermediate Spanish courses, Portales Comunidad Y Cultura provides readers with a well-rounded learning experience by connecting the learning of language and culture with the study of other disciplines such as art, math, literature, geography, sociology, and history.

Portales Comunidad Y Cultura fuses a print textbook and a supplemental website that offers many tools to facilitate the connection to Spanish communities and to enhance the ability to comprehend, speak, read, and write in Spanish. The website immerses students in the past and present Spanish cultures while exploring the diverse groups in the Spanish-speaking world. The accompanying site includes access to vocabulary, grammar, listening, reading and cultural activities, audio materials to help students practice listening skills, and downloadable hand-outs.

The new edition of Portales Comunidad Y Cultura maintains the pedagogy and concepts of previous editions while including new features such as:

  • Instructor notes and activities integrated directly into the design of the textbook - making them more user-friendly both for the instructor and for the students.
  • Task-based activities to help boost group interactivity, as well as increasing students’ confidence in Spanish.
  • Cultural materials and activities to provide additional opportunities for practice of specific chapter vocabulary lists and grammar points.
