Assembling a lifetime of experience and discovery, this course is a systematic walkthrough of some of the key principles of life and learning. Beginning with an understanding of your personal mission and moving on to ways of ensuring that your personal mission stays in the forefront of your thinking, the foundation is set for you to move on and understand your personal learning style and how you can build and maintain influence in your life. Examination of personal study habits, critical thinking and problem-solving methods buttressed by an understanding of effective negotiation techniques brings you deeper into an understanding of how you can create a successful life. The Immunity to ChangeTM model will identify areas of personal resistance and the underlying reasons for that resistance. Staying curious as a learner and what contributions you can bring to your work environment through the Belbin® Team Roles Assessment rounds out the picture. This leads naturally to an examination of your ideal organization or work environment and how to identify where those work opportunities can be found. The final module addresses the question of preparation for your future as you answer the question, “Where in the world do I go now?” Your journey through this course is guaranteed to deepen your thinking, clarify your understanding of where you are headed in your life, and provide strategies to get from where you are to where you want to be. Here's to your increased success!
Module 1 Personal Mission
Every solid structure that is built to last begins with a conceptual idea which is transposed into a blueprint that provides the means of bringing the creative idea into reality. If your desire is to build a lasting legacy of your life, you need the blueprint. You need a Personal Mission Statement. From conception of the idea to constructing the language that clearly expresses where you are headed, this module will furnish the tools to design your Personal Mission Statement.
Module 2 My Learning Style & Vision Board
Much has been said about learning styles, some of it valid, some of it questionable. The most important question for you to answer is, “Under what conditions do I learn best?” If you can then create those conditions, the efficacy of your learning will increase. Discovering the answer to the question is vital, and from there creating a visual representation of what you want to accomplish will capture your thoughts and intentions, imparting a clear roadmap to your destination.
Module 3 Influence & Leadership
What is influence? What is leadership? Are they the same thing? If not, how are they different and what defines the difference? Do you know if you are a leader? Do you know if you are an influencer? What responsibility does it place on you once you know? What are the 5 things you can do to increase your influence? Prepare to discover!
Module 4 Influence & Life Balance
If you are a leader or an influencer, how important is it to create balance in your life? What effect does balance in your priorities and values have on your capacity as a leader or influencer? Do the choices you make today affect your ability to influence? An in-depth look at the answers to these questions and more.
Module 5 Effective Study Habits
Whether you are a student, already working in your chosen career, attempting to make an employment change, or simply want to build your knowledge base, knowing how to study effectively can make your life easier and more enjoyable while increasing your value in the marketplace. Examine best practices assembled from several sources to determine ways to improve your own performance.
Module 6 Negotiation
Negotiation is one of those topics that intimidate some and get others going. How can you be effective in negotiations, even if you have had no experience, or you feel that you are not very good? This module will present some interesting ideas for winning in negotiations, whether it is at work or in relationships.
Module 7 Critical Thinking
Critical thinking is one of those factors critical for successful insight into discovering and implementing viable solutions or weighing the pros and cons of difficult decisions that need clarity to respond effectively. Do you know how to ask the probing questions that demand answers for a well- rounded understanding of the situation? This is not for the faint-hearted, but it is for those who want to be challenged to think deeper.
Module 8 Divergent/Convergent Methods of Problem-Solving
Knowing how to be effective in problem-solving creates significant value in the marketplace. Being skilled at picking apart the components of a situation to expose all the nuances at play can make you a valuable diplomat or arbitrator. The theoretical model explored in this module will give you a framework to hone these skills.
Module 9 Immunity to ChangeTM Model
Have you ever had a goal in mind that was so powerful and life-changing that you knew its achievement would change your life…but you found yourself incapable of following through to make it a reality? All of us have been there. As it turns out, this is a common issue. Join two Harvard professors who have designed a model to uncover the obstacles that keep tripping you up when you want something so badly and can’t seem to get it.
Module 10 The Curious Learner & Belbin® Team Roles Assessment
Stay curious. That was one of Albert Einstein’s admonitions. How does curiosity affect the way we view the world, its problems, and our reaction to them? You may be surprised by what you learn. In the spirit of curiosity, we will also explore the Belbin® Team Roles Assessment, which reveals how roles on a team impact productivity and effectiveness, what team roles you naturally gravitate toward (if you take the assessment), and, as a bonus, how others you work with perceive your contribution to the team. Eye-opening, highly interesting, and a lot of fun to complete. You as a curious learner will thrill to the information that the Belbin® provides.
Module 11 My Ideal Organization
Many people spend all or the greatest part of their working lives doing things they are not really interested in and don’t feel like doing. What if you could discover what kind of organization or company would align with your values and interests, pursue a career there, or create your own company that would express your authenticity? This starts with understanding what constitutes an ideal organization from your point of view. Explore that in this module.
Module 12 Where in the World Do I Go Now?
Whether you are on the threshold of your working life and career, substantially down the road of experience, or looking to make changes, this course would not be complete without looking at where in the world you go now after exploring so many diverse aspects of living successfully and meaningfully. Prepare to ask and answer some hard questions that will clarify your next steps. Bon voyage!
